Schiff said Trump's personal lawyer, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, appeared to lay the foundation for Trump's call to Zelenskiy through his efforts to encourage Ukrainian authorities to investigate the Biden family. He was going to come to NY.

The president's adviser charged the individual, who The New York Times reported was on detail to the White House from the Central Intelligence Agency, is part of a group of unelected bureaucrats trying to take down Mr. Trump.

But Trump's staunchest congressional supporters - including Sen. That ultimately did not happen due to conflicts, as Toensing had previously represented witnesses who had already spoken to Mueller's team.

House Democrats are gambling that more of the public will support their decision to move ahead with a formal impeachment inquiry as the investigation progresses.

"Revelations that Hunter Biden [serves] on the board of a company controlled by a Yanukovych ally raise serious conflict of interest questions for Western countries' Ukraine policy", BuzzFeed News wrote in 2014. Democrats claim that Trump used military aid as leverage over Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, although Zelensky insists there was no pressure at all.

Democrats pushed back, saying that if the whistleblower's complaint is borne out, Trump's misconduct was egregious enough to merit ouster from office.

Hunter Biden served for almost five years on the board of Burisma, Ukraine's largest private gas company, whose owner came under scrutiny by Ukrainian prosecutors for possible abuse of power and unlawful enrichment.

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday", Miller called the whistleblower "a saboteur trying to undermine a democratically elected government", and endorsed Trump's menacing characterization of the whistleblower - made in a closed-door meeting in NY last week - as "close to a spy". Trump also claimed that the server itself, which the Federal Bureau of Investigation never acquired, may now be in Ukraine.

The video message posted on Twitter came in response to Democratic lawmakers' investigation of accusations that Trump tried to strong-arm the Ukrainian president into providing dirt on Joe Biden, one of the American President's main 2020 election rivals.

Biden has acknowledged this in the past, stating that he threatened to withhold $1 billion from Ukraine if they did not fire Shokin. Both Bidens have denied any wrongdoing.

"It is disturbing and outrageous that chairman of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff opens up a hearing of this importance with improvised fake dialogue between President Trump and President Zelensky", Rep. Elise Stefanik (R., N.Y.) tweeted on Thursday.

Now, a central question for Democratic lawmakers moving with remarkable speed to impeach him is the extent to which Trump entangled both his office and the machinery of the USA government to spark investigations that would benefit him personally.

In a day of bitter partisan skirmishing, President Trump's allies and his Democratic antagonists took to the nation's talk shows Sunday to present stridently opposing views of the impeachment inquiry that hit Washington last week like a tornado, sweeping almost all other priorities aside.

Republicans, meanwhile are criticizing the complaint because the whistleblower did not have firsthand knowledge of the call.
