Energy Secretary Rick Perry reportedly told Trump he intends to step down

U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito said Perry has been key in addressing some of the state's top priorities. "I know Rick has been with me three years, he's right here". Trump told eventgoers that he intends to announcement Perry's replacement at his Dallas rally in the coming hours. "It's a man that we're going to be putting in Rick's place", without elaborating.

Perry had avoided the missteps that led to the downfall and exit of other cabinet members including Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt and Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke.

But Perry also claimed he never heard Trump, Giuliani, or officials of either government discuss the Trump administration's efforts to tie the release of held-up USA military aid to an investigation into Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. Before that, he served at the Energy Department as an assistant secretary for congressional and intergovernmental affairs for two years under President George W. Bush.

The House is investigating allegations Trump on the call pressured Zelenskiy to investigate Democrat Joe Biden and his son, Hunter, for activities in Ukraine. Perry was one of the "three amigos" leading USA relations with the country, meeting three times with Zelensky. But since then, the White House has defied those requests because it regards the impeachment inquiry as illegitimate without an official House vote.

Perry's impending departure has been the subject of speculation for months. Those documents are due October 18, according to the subpoena.

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said earlier on Thursday that Trump had directed Perry to work on Ukraine policy with Trump's personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani. Those remarks seen by some as cavalier and not helpful to Trump's cause.

The Senate would have to confirm Brouillette's role. At the same time, I am pleased to nominate Deputy Secretary Dan Brouillette to be the new Secretary of Energy.
