Trump to face impeachment vote after House panel approves charges

Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are the two articles of impeachment announced by House Democrats this week. There will be no difference between the president's position and our position as to how to handle this to the extent that we can.

There are 41 members on the panel, which is expected to vote along party lines on Thursday afternoon local time.

Trump is accused of abuse of power by pressuring Ukraine for his personal political gain, and of obstructing Congress by blocking investigations into his conduct. The charges now go to the full House for an expected vote next week. Van Drew was one of two Democrats who joined with every single Republican in the House to vote against the impeachment inquiry resolution.

"Our Framers were anxious a president would abuse their power to advance their own interests, which is why they included a process for impeachment in our Constitution", she continued.

Speaking at the Doha Forum in Qatar on Saturday, the South Carolina Republican and close Trump ally said he was "trying to give a pretty clear signal I have made up my mind". So I think impeachment is going to end quickly in the Senate.

House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) speaks before the start of the House Judiciary Committee's vote on House Resolution 755, Articles of Impeachment Against President Donald Trump, on Capitol Hill in Washington on December 13, 2019.

Surprise rise in USA crude stocks nudges oil prices down
The IEA estimates total USA oil production growth will slow to 1.1 million bpd in 2020 from 1.6 million bpd this year. Granted, the gain was only 0.8 million barrels, but analysts had predicted a significant decline of 2.9 million.

The President decried the process as a "sham" and said Democrats were trivialising impeachment. The Judiciary Committee vote itself was formal and businesslike and was over in less than ten minutes on Friday morning after the epic 14-hour debate, full of fire and fury, on Thursday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is openly meeting with Trump's lawyers to plan the Senate trial, which McConnell says he knows will find the defendant not guilty.

Mr Trump has repeatedly denied doing anything wrong during a July phonecall with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in which he pressed Ukraine to investigate Democratic former Vice President Joe Biden.

The fundamental divide over impeachment played out over and over again in the cavernous House hearing room where the Judiciary Committee debated the impeachment articles Wednesday and Thursday, where lawmakers in the two parties mostly talked past each other and urged the other side to change course.

Democrats will frame this as a sad, but necessary, step to contain a rogue president.

Mr Trump had also asked Ukraine to investigate a debunked theory that it was Ukraine, not Russian Federation, that interfered in the 2016 USA election.
