While the initial report on LaFleur stated that the 49ers assistant was a candidate for the head-coaching job in Cleveland, it is entirely possible that both he and McDaniel are candidates for an offensive coordinator to be paired with Saleh, should that interview go well.

"It's actually a flawless situation for Saleh, just like it was for me (when interviewing for the 49ers job in 2017), just because I was fortunate to have the bye week, also", head coach Kyle Shanahan said this week.

This year, two head coaches - the Carolina Panthers' Ron Rivera and Washington Redskins' Jay Gruden - were fired mid-season (Rivera, though, is reportedly set to replace Gruden in D.C.), and a couple of other coaches are still on the hot seat, namely the Jacksonville Jaguars' Doug Marrone and the Dallas Cowboys' Jason Garrett.

That said, McDaniels has turned down some opportunities in favor of remaining in New England as offensive coordinator.
