You can now play each game in the Half-Life series free. Are any of you planning on getting Half-Life: Alyx at launch? That doesn't give you an terrible lot of time to play through the entire Half-Life Library, but it'll give you something to play if you don't already own the games on Steam or having nothing else to play considering everything that was supposed to be coming has been delayed.

The game, which Valve insists is not a spin-off but "the next part" of the story, can be pre-purchased for $59.99 and is free for owners of the Valve Index VR headset or Index controllers.

In order to celebrate the upcoming launch of Half-Life: Alyx, Valve is making all the original Half-Life games free to play for the next two months.

You may be wondering why Valve is being so generous, even if only for a limited amount of time.

U.S. airports begin screening against China's mysterious SARS-like virus
There have been more than 60 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus , but United Kingdom experts estimate a figure nearer 1,700. So far this month, two men in their 60s have died of respiratory failure in Wuhan in the outbreak of a pneumonia-like illness.

Alyx is set before the events of Half-Life 2 and its two additional episodes.

Steam users received a notification earlier announcing the Half-Life promotion, but the notification appeared to have gone out too early because it soon disappeared. Thus, the developers believe that the best way to enjoy the new game is to play through the old ones.

As the reasoning states, Half-Life: Alyx is set before Half-Life 2 and stars Alyx, one of the main characters of the series. The rest, as they say, is gaming history and Half-Lif quickly grew a cult following that generated fan-made content, both short videos and mods, for years to come.

In case essentially renting the entire Half-Life franchise isn't enough, though, you can buy them in the Half-Life Complete bundle, which is now 40% off.
