Instead, the studio has tapped WandaVision series scribe Megan McDonnell as the new Captain Marvel 2 writer, and is now on the hunt for a female director as the sequel flies closer to its prospective 2022 release date.

Unlike the original, The Hollywood Reporter have stated that the action in Captain Marvel 2 will move away from the '90s. Marvel Studios is apparently seeking a new female director for this sequel. Captain Marvel raked in over $1.1 billion worldwide and kicked off word-of-mouth buzz that prompted a highly publicized (and slightly disappointing) extended appearance for Larson in Avengers: Endgame.
