The Dodgers are expected to send Alex Verdugo to Boston and Kenta Maeda to Minnesota as a part of the trade, which has not yet been finalized. He likely slots in to the front end of that group, and fortifies a perceived weakness for Minnesota.

The Red Sox have agreed to trade Mookie Betts and David Price to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Numerous reports stated that the deal is incomplete pending medical reviews of the principals.

In 2018, Betts led Boston to a World Series title and was named American League MVP.

This is the exact move that they needed to make to get not only the fanbase, but also the team itself, apparently, excited for the 2020 season. By dumping payroll, the Red Sox also put themselves in position to be a player in free agency following the 2020 season.

For his six-year career, all with the Red Sox, Betts has a.301/.374/.519 batting line with 139 homers, 470 RBIs and 613 runs in 794 games.

Betts - a four-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glove Award victor and three-time Silver Slugger - tallied 29 home runs, 135 runs and 176 hits after 597 at-bats with an 80 RBI last season.

But Yankees managing partner Hal Steinbrenner stuck a very diplomatic tone when asked Wednesday about the Betts trade. Price, a 34-year-old left-hander who is a former Cy Young Award victor, still has three years and $96 million left on the seven-year, $217 million deal he signed in December 2015.

Price, slowed by injuries numerous times in his career, went 7-5 with a 4.28 ERA in 22 starts a year ago. The 2012 Cy Young victor had a 4.28 ERA in 22 starts last season.
