Amazon Employee In Seattle Confirmed To Have Contracted Coronavirus

The company said they were informed that the employee tested positive for COVID-19 - the disease caused by coronavirus - on March 3. The company confirmed the employee worked in Seattle, at its South Lake Union office and went home sick on February 25th.

LADbible has reached out to Amazon for comment.

Fellow Amazon employees who came into contact with their infected co-worker were notified.

"We're supporting the affected employee who is in quarantine", Amazon said in a statement.

A source has told The Epoch Times that the employee is not involved with the company's delivery operations. The company asked anyone experiencing symptoms to stay home and seek medical attention.

Meanwhile, concerns of community spread of the virus across the United States continue to escalate, with at least 12 states across the country reporting cases.

More than 82,000 people have been infected by the virus and the death toll stands at more than 2,800 globally. ET, Dow e-minis were down 384 points, or 1.43%, while Nasdaq 100 e-minis were down 137.75 points, or 1.56%.


Amazon has confirmed the first case of novel coronavirus among its USA workforce.

Community spread of COVID-19 in Washington led to the first USA death from the illness, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

On Friday, the company put a hold on all non-essential travel in the U.S. and overseas, according to Reuters, which also reported that two Amazon employees in Italy were confirmed to have the virus over the weekend.

Another 231 people are now being monitored for the virus, health officials said.

According to statistics compiled by Johns Hopkins University, all nine coronavirus-related deaths in the United States have been in Washington.
