China’s new coronavirus cases drop below 50

In United States, the number of coronavirus cases soared past 500 on Sunday, including two further deaths, as California braced for the arrival of infected cruise ship passengers and saw a major tennis event canceled. The new cases on Sunday brought the total accumulated number of cases in mainland China to 80,735.

Another four cases of infections contracted outside China were reported, bringing the total of imported cases to 67.

Some 12,000 patients were treated in these temporary hospitals, according to the city's COVID-19 control headquarters.

South Korea reported 69 new coronavirus cases on March 8, bringing the country's total infections to 7,382, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Mainland China reported no new locally transmitted coronavirus cases outside the epicenter of Hubei province for the second day running on Monday, but a top Communist Party official warned against people dropping their guard.

The commission said that 421 people were still suspected of being infected with the virus.

Outside of central China's Hubei province, there were 25 new confirmed cases reported on March 6, of which 24 came from outside China.

But Ding stressed that cases in Hubei - and its capital Wuhan where the virus emerged - still made up a huge proportion of the national toll. Issuing a statement, the World Health Organization in a statement said,"China and other countries are demonstrating that the spread of the virus can be slowed and impact reduced through the use of universally applicable actions".

The number of cases worldwide has risen to more than 100,000 with 3,500 dead across 95 nations and territories.

In Berlin, German Health Minister Jens Spahn told reporters more than 1,100 cases are confirmed and urged citizens to reduce travel, work from home if possible and avoid public transport. Italy is now in the midst of a coronavirus emergency in the north, with more than 7,375 positive cases as per the reports.

The 58,600 recovered cases include 46,433 patients from Hubei Mainland China. More recently, Chinese authorities have been on alert for coronavirus infections coming from overseas, with multiple provinces requiring travelers arriving from severely affected countries (South Korea, Italy, Iran) to be quarantined for 14 days.

Meanwhile, Albania reported its first coronavirus infections on March 9, in a father and son who had returned from Italy.
