New York State's coronavirus reopening may unfold region by region: Cuomo

After the press briefing Andrew Cuomo tweeted, "NEW: I am issuing an Executive Order allowing New Yorkers to obtain a marriage license remotely and allowing clerks to perform ceremonies via video conference".

Speaking Tuesday during a briefing in Buffalo, Cuomo said future moves will be based on a "region's facts and circumstances" related to the COVID-19 virus. "The heck with it, just tell the truth and whatever it is, it is". He said he wanted to lay out the groundwork for better coordination between the federal government and the states in terms of funding and large-scale testing. The president is right when he says that the state should lead'. The problem, Cuomo said, is that the manufactures themselves are struggling to procure them from China and other locations overseas.

"The numbers would counsel we're seeing a descent", Cuomo mentioned.

Mr Trump previously insisted the presidency had power over state governors to rule when lockdown restrictions should be lifted.

"Let's use this time to actually learn the lessons, value from the reflection and reimagine what we want society to be", Cuomo said.

This came after the New York Health Department revealed on Friday a troubling tally of elderly people dying in a number of facilities across the state.

New York City will honor the health care workers and first responders battling the COVID-19 pandemic with a ticker tape parade - once it's safe to hold large gatherings again, de Blasio said. These include; New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Delaware.
