Gunfight between joint forces and militants rages in Srinagar city

An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar on Tuesday, police said. A policeman from Special Operation Group and three paramilitary CRPF personnel were injured during the course of the gunfight and were removed to hospital, they said.

According to reports, a joint team of the J&K police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) received a specific tip-off about the presence of militants at Nawa Kadal in old Srinagar city. Two AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition were claimed to have been recovered from the slain duo.

The encounter began around 2 am and there was a lull in firing for about five hours after that. Of the total 69 terrorists killed so far, 22 belonged to Hizbul, which included some of the top commanders of the terror outfit.

There have been a number of gunfights between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir over the past month. This information has been given by the police of Kashmir Zone.
