Human remains found as police probe missing Idaho children, ‘doomsday’ parents

Chad Daybell, who recently married the children's mother, Lori Vallow Daybell, was taken into custody, according to police in the small town of Rexburg.

The remains have yet to to be publicly identified.

Rexburg police, along with investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Fremont County Sheriff's Office, were searching Chad Daybell's home in the eastern Idaho town of Salem for the second time.

The families of 7-year-old Joshua "JJ" Tyler and 17-year-old Tylee Ryan have confirmed that it was indeed their remains discovered on Chad Daybell's property Tuesday.

Police investigators say the Daybells lied about the children's whereabouts and then fled from Idaho. The children have been missing since September, and their mother Lori is being held on $1 million bond for child desertion charges. Vallow, 46, is now in jail on $1 million bond.

Vallow's estranged late husband, Charles Vallow, was shot and killed by her brother, Alex Cox, in Phoenix in July, 2019.

In the brief address, AC Hagen had indicated that the investigation involves the missing children's case of Tylee Ryan and Joshua "JJ" Vallow. Barker could not give any details on exactly what prompted the search or what specific activities the Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel are doing at the scene.

The Idaho Attorney General is investigating possible murder and conspiracy in her death. Lori's brother claimed that the shooting was in self-defense and no charges were brought against him.

In court documents, Madison County Prosecutor Rob Wood said he believes Chad Daybell either concealed or helped hide the remains knowing that they were about to be used as evidence in court. Two weeks after she died in her sleep, Lori and Chad Daybell Wednesday in Hawaii. Tylee was last seen in September headed into Yellowstone National Park with her mom and other family for a day trip, and JJ was last seen by school officials several days later.

Daybell and Vallow married shortly after Tammy was found dead in her home in October.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children describe Joshua Vallow, age 8, as white, with brown hair, and brown eyes. The results of the ensuing autopsy have not been publicly released. Their relatives are offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to their recovery.

Her remains were exhumed, but an autopsy report has not yet been released.

Shortly after Charles' death, Lori, a former fitness instructor, left her Arizona residence and moved to Idaho, after being in touch with Daybell via a podcast and group meetings.

She was living there with Daybell when the children's grandparents asked local police to perform a wellness check.
