Spider-Man Miles Morales is a PS5 remaster plus an "expansion"

The announcement of Miles Morales pitched this as an "all-new story" which we initially read to be on the scale of a standalone expansion, similar to inFamous: Last Light.

You can read the clarification below. The action role-playing game was first launched for the PlayStation 3 in 2009, and Sony says that the remake will demonstrate the shadow effects and ray tracing of the new PS5 console.

It did seem pretty soon for a proper sequel, given only two years have passed since Marvel's Spider-Man's release - but the fact that Sony isn't sure about what it's publishing doesn't inspire confidence for its ability to communicate key information around the PS5 in the coming months.

"With PlayStation 5, we are making a significant leap to deliver a truly new generation of transformative play experiences that will redefine expectations for what games can be", said Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan in a press release.

One of the first, and most exciting, trailers to debut at Sony's PS5 Future of Gaming event on Thursday was for what appeared to be a brand new game set in the same universe as 2018's Marvel's Spider-Man.

COVID-19: Recoveries Surpass Number of Active Cases in India
The death toll due to the infection stands at 14,000 and confirmed cases have crossed 120,000, reports Reuters. A total of 2,61,079 COVID-19 tests were conducted in the national capital till Tuesday, it added.

The game has only been announced for PS5 which means that Spider-Man Miles Morales will not be on PS4.

Insomniac finally clarified that Miles Morales is a standalone game on Friday.

This led the Telegraph to describe Miles Morales as "an expansion bolted on to an upgraded version of the original title".

"There's a substantial Miles Morales component - which is the expansion element - but also within the game as well there's been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features", he added. In the meantime, I'm hoping that this Miles Morales expansion will also be made available for the PlayStation 4, because based on what was revealed yesterday, I won't be getting a PlayStation 5 for a long time.

There are still so many unanswered questions about the logistics of Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Whatever the case, following an evening of joyous celebration, Sony found a way to temporarily kill all of its momentum.
