Both of these features should be coming in forthcoming firmware updates for AirPods models, although there's no date on that release as of yet. He cites stock clearance efforts and Apple's recent back to school deal, which offered AirPods as a free gift with other eligible devices, as the reason why Apple won't have a problem clearing space for the new generation of AirPods. AirPods will also launch around the same timeframe.

At WWDC, Apple just announced some big features coming to AirPods and AirPods Pro starting with Automatic Switching.

The investor note from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is proving to be an inexhaustible source of rumour about Apple's upcoming moves.

Kuo, as per the 9to5Mac report, in his research report noted that the AirPods 3 will boast a design which is similar to the AirPods Pro. And if then you get a turn to your iPhone, the audio will switch to that. The Pro variant was an absolute stand-out from the AirPods 2 with its in-ear design and silicon tips.

If you're wondering what the differences are between the AirPods and AirPods Pro, it essentially comes down to three things: fit, sound quality and active noise cancellation. And seeing as how Apple's second-gen AirPods hit store shelves in March 2019, it stands to reason that Apple's new AirPods will arrive sometime during the first quarter of 2021.

The higher-tier AirPods Pro will also receive a new Spatial Audio feature that will mimic an immersive surround sound and movie theater-like experience.

Earlier last month, Kuo had suggested that Apple will stop shipping wired earPods in the box with iPhone 12.

One of the largest tech events just wrapped up. One of the reasons behind the strategy is to help increase the sales of Apple's AirPods.
