- As the coronavirus continues to grip parts of South Florida, there are growing concerns over hospitalizations and the numbers of intensive care unit beds available.

Coronavirus update: Florida's health officials shared data on Tuesday which shows that 54 hospital ICUs across the state have hit capacity with coronavirus cases. "It takes a little bit of time to find out, exactly, but we're obviously very closely monitoring hospitalizations and we're very, very closely monitoring the death rate, which our lagging indicators, that give us the impression that we have to take much stricter - much stricter measurements - measures".

The Agency for Health Care Administration of Florida published information on Tuesday which demonstrates that 54 hospital ICUs are full in 25 of the 67 counties of Florida. That's good advice, but even if hospitals are safe, they might not have an ICU bed for you when you arrive. The AHCA reports both overall hospital beds and ICU beds for each county and for each hospital across the state.

DeSantis also noted that the average age of infected people has dropped in the early days of the outbreak, which may explain why the state's fatality rate has stayed so low. Meanwhile, when NY reached its peak of over 12,000 cases in April, over 800 deaths were being reported on a daily basis.

The suspension of elective surgeries is created to protect hospital space in the Dallas, Houston, Austin and San Antonio areas. The number of COVID-19-positive hospital patients in Harris County, which encompasses Houston, has almost tripled since May 31.

After two weeks of record-setting increases in the number of infections, the number of coronavirus cases in Boca Raton and throughout the State of Florida has continued to surge. And while the US has seen its third day where coronavirus cases have exceeded 50,000, White House health advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci warned this week that new cases could top more than 100,000 a day.

The total number of ICU beds statewide has increased over the past week or so, as hospitals have converted existing units into ICU wards for Covid-19 patients, or added additional ICU beds. The greatest number of verified instances in a solitary day came Saturday when far more than 11,400 circumstances ended up claimed.

Miami-Dade County's mayor rolled back reopening plans on Monday in light of the climbing case count, halting indoor dining at restaurants that had resumed business after an initial shutdown aimed at containing the virus' spread.
