India's COVID-19 case fatality rate dips to 2.72 pc: Health Ministry


With effective implementation of containment zones, surveillance activities, timely diagnosis and effective clinical management of cases, the total number of recovered patients has crossed the 5 lakh-mark on Saturday, the Union Health ministry said.

Out of the total number of cases, 2,76,685 are active, 4,95,513 have been cured/discharged/migrated and 21,604 have died so far due to the infection.

Among states, Maharashtra (9,667), Delhi (3,258), Gujarat (2,008), Tamil Nadu (1,765) and Uttar Pradesh (862) have reported the most deaths.

"We should not forget that in our country, 49 districts alone account for 80 per cent of COVID-19 cases".

India has reported its highest-ever single-day spike in coronavirus positive cases, crossing 25,000 case-mark in the process, with 26,506 new cases and 475 deaths being reported in the last 24 hours.

Eighteen States/Union Territories are now clocking a recovery rate more than the national average of 62.42 %, the Health Ministry said on Friday.

Recent policy changes like allowing all registered medical practitioners to recommend testing for COVID and introduction of rapid antigen point of care testing along with RT-PCR has substantially bolstered the COVID-19 tests in the country, the ministry said. "The national recovery rate is 62.42per cent today", the ministry added.

Testing results are available for more than 1,089,000 individuals, with 9 percent of people testing positive. Across Florida, the case count hits 146,341 with 3,447 deaths, according to the Florida Department of Health.

During the last 24 hours, 2,83,659 samples were tested, as the testing lab network continues to expand.

COVID-19 recovered cases are 1.75 times that of active cases, Bhushan said.

"From 2.82 per cent a month earlier, India's COVID-19 case fatality rate has declined to 2.72 per cent".

Wherever there are active cases, if the prescribed protocol is followed, in three days close contacts of such cases can be traced and tracked, he said. In just past 24 hrs, 19,135 covid patients were cured and discharged. Out of the total cases in the state, 132,625 have recovered from the disease and 95,943 are still active. "This is lower than that of many other countries", a statement from the ministry said.

Meanwhile, Union Home Ministry said that the situation in Delhi has shown remarkable improvement as the recovery rate goes over 72 per cent and doubling rate is now almost 30 days.

Bihar has recorded 755 fresh infections, taking the total number of infected in the state to 13944 with 115 fatalities.
